During this past weekend we had the pleasure of attending the wedding celebration of my schoolfriend Ian. Ian met his first wife at Tyndale; he came along with me and Jackie came with Jan Smith (now Kuhn). Jackie died at a shockingly early age. So here he was marrying the lovely Sue with the support of family and friends.
Ian was always very good at taking, and then carefully storing, a photo record of his life. So it was no surprise, when we joined him and Sue for breakfast on Sunday morning, that he brought out an album chronicling our lives as teenagers and twenty-somethings. There were photos of sunny weekends at Boxenwood, cycling holidays in Somerset and those old monochrome school group shots. There was even one of Tina and me on our first date! How young, optimistic and hairy we all were.
The weekend was not just about nostalgia, of course. It was a celebration of finding love after sorrow, of having an adventurous spirit when your body is starting to slow down, of remembering the past and looking to the future.
We left Yeovil uplifted and with plenty to reflect on. May we all find inspiration to guide our thoughts during this Tyndale week of prayer.
